Having gone through the West Virginia public education system and been to college, I've seen first-hand the effects of the modern education system and the potential it has to be reformed in order to better prepare our youth for the challenges of tomorrow. We must ensure our youth receive an exponentially improved education. The current system, not our teachers, has failed the students across the state. Common Core is the epitome of what is wrong with the current system. I am a strong supporter of local control, including education. We know more about our kids and their needs than the people of Wasington, D.C. West Virginia has a high school grading scale that is inconsistent with other states which makes it more difficult for West Virginia graduates to be accepted into the top colleges of their choice. Students from other states can receive A's for a 90% in a course, where our students need a 92.5%. This isn't fair to our students. Minor changes like this can go a long way in shaping the future of our graduates.
